ABOUT ME
In 1973, a 12-year-old boy starts a journey from the state of Michoacán, Mexico with his family of 8 to the United States of America in the search for the American Dream. The journey starts with him saying goodbye to all his friends and relatives; saying goodbye to the only life he ever knew, in a small ranch in the middle of nowhere and in route to a new country and his new home. He left behind a life in a small shack that was built by his father with no running water and no electricity. The journey started with a 3-day and 3-night bus ride with his mother, one sister and four brothers, which ended in Tijuana. Here they were smuggled into the USA. The whole family made it over with the help of a human smuggler “El Coyote.” They landed in the city of Santa Ana, California. The older kids were enrolled in school immediately. Everybody that could work started working the minute they arrived. The first day he arrived, Al started recycling cans & bottles. Going from trash container to trash container, he picked through to earn just a few dollars. At 15 years old he landed his first full time job as a dishwasher. He went to school during the day and worked at night. Over the years he attended high school, Junior College and has worked as a Facilities/Manufacturing Operations Director/Manager. This book, 12 Millones & + Estamos Jodidos was the first material to be published. Al has also written poems and songs known as “corridos.” He has never had the opportunity to publish any work until now. Al is preparing a second book, the recording of his “corridos” and other projects. He is currently a board member of A.E.S.A., a Los Angeles California Salvadorian authors and writers association and is also a leader for “Los 32 por Mexico” a group that rescues art, culture and traditions from Mexico in Orange County.
